Services ~ Investment Management
Client-focused, fee-only investment management
A comprehensive client-centered approach to investment management
has dramatically improved our clients lives and their individual
and family financial wealth. We concentrate on proper investment
planning to avoid the costs and risks of flawed market predictions
that plague traditional approaches to asset management.
By examining larger economic factors, rather than individual
securities, we focus on capturing compensated dimensions of the
market and favored asset classes within it. We also strive to
increase a clients return by reducing costs, such as taxes, market
impact and fund operating expenses.
Research-based investment management
Following a comprehensive financial planning process, we create
an investment structure built on solid, academically proven fiduciary
standards and foundational principles. Three of these asset management
foundations include:
Foundation 1: Liquid assets should be available to cover
a short-term disability, homeowner needs and other short-term
expenses. To save on fees, these assets should be held outside
of our management.
Foundation 2: Our tax-efficient, passively managed,
low-cost investment recommendations based on modern portfolio
theory have proven short-term and long-term value. This compares
to the over-actively managed and market-timing strategies of other
advisors.
Foundation 3: Five to seven years of fixed income is typically
built into a clients portfolio to reduce the overall risk of
the portfolio, insulating it against volatility in down markets
and substantially increasing the net return over a five-year minimum
investing period.
Disciplined trading guidelines
Many investors make the wrong move at the wrong time because
of emotional decision-making. After a portfolio is designed, we
implement a strict review process and disciplined trading guidelines.
This results in portfolio changes that are rational, objective
and ultimately very successful for our clients.
We are guided by the following principles in recommending a portfolio
change:
- A lower risk can be achieved (without sacrificing return)
by buying and/or selling part or all of a security or fund.
- A better degree of diversification can be attained.
- A gain can be recognized with little or no tax consequences
for the current tax year, known as tax-loss harvesting. An equivalent
alternative asset is often purchased after to maintain the portfolios
proper asset allocation.
- A lower cost alternative investment (measured by expense ratio
and trading costs) has been identified to reduce overall investment
costs while maintaining the proper investment mix.
In managing your investment assets, we carefully consider your
customized portfolio design and personal investment policy statement,
adjusting the focus only when your life goals change.
Objective portfolio analysis and fee-only advice
During your quarterly portfolio review, we apply intelligent
investing techniques and an objective analysis before making any
recommendations. As fee-only investment advisors we are compensated
exclusively by you, our clients, allowing us to make recommendations
solely in your best interest. Your portfolio performance is reported
to you each quarter, net of fees, allowing you to see exactly
how well we are working for you.
